(Yes, We Own 188 Disco Balls)
If you’ve ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at The Sugar Cube… apparently, it involves counting disco balls.
A lot of disco balls.
As part of kicking off the new year, Sarah has been deep in warehouse organization mode. Like, really in it. Sorting, categorizing, and getting a clear picture of all the decor pieces we use for our candy buffets, event setups, and branded activations across Calgary and beyond.
Somewhere in that process, she did what we probably should have done a long time ago.
She counted our disco balls.
188.
We knew it was a lot. We did not realize it was 188, which feels like both an impressive and deeply funny number. Also… why 188? We may never know.

What’s even better is the variety. Surprisingly, most of them are gold, but we truly have every colour of the rainbow. Rose gold, bright pink, blue, classic silver, and everything in between. From huge statement disco balls to the tiniest little ones you’ve ever seen. The range is… extensive.
Is it excessive? Maybe.
Does it make every event more fun? Absolutely.
Because here’s the thing, we’ve learned after years of setting up candy buffets, corporate events, weddings, and parties that people don’t remember “nice.” They remember fun.
They remember the table that made them stop and take a photo. The setup that felt different from everything else in the room. The little details that made it feel like an experience, not just decor.
Which is exactly why we lean into colour, texture, and yes… apparently an unnecessary amount of sparkle.
So we’re officially declaring it sparkle season. More colour, more shine, more reasons to lean into things that feel joyful and a little extra. Which honestly lines up perfectly with all the events we’re heading into right now.

On a personal note, I’ve also fully embraced dopamine decor lately. I bought a 12-inch disco ball for my bathroom and hung it above the tub, and I’m not exaggerating when I say it brings me joy every single time I walk in there: one tiny change, completely different mood.
Highly recommend.
Whether it’s a giant disco ball in your bathroom, a colourful candy table at your event, or something small that just makes you smile, consider this your reminder to put things in your space that actually make you happy.
Life is too short for boring decor.
And if you’re planning something and want it to feel a little more you (and a little less expected)… we’ve got the candy, and about 188 disco balls worth of ideas to go with it.
